Past President's Message
I would like to explore with you-all (notice how I am attempting to include our beloved Kentuckians) a church bus trip this fall. We are surrounded by a myriad of wonderful places that we could explore.

I don’t have a destination in mind but I do have some thoughts. Perhaps we could go to Chicago and explore some world-class museums or to Louisville for the philharmonic.

My minds eye sees a section of the bus with the ladies all gathered around knitting, talking, laughing, planning, crocheting, reading, etc. And all of the men being our typical serious selves contemplating the universe and other such deep thoughts like the formation of lint.

Please drop me a line to share your thoughts. Really, please! If your thought is “What are you thinking? I wouldn’t do that on a bet” or “Man I am so glad you are trying to get some activities going that will bring us all together. I so love to ride on a bus. You are trying to make one of my dreams come true”. You get the idea.

Stay tuned for other announcements. We are close to being able to announce an awesome performer for us all to tell our friends about. That date is looking like it will be the forth Friday in September.

Charity Navigator
by Jack Carden

I don't know how many of you receive solicitations regularly from various charity organizations, but I do. In the mail I receive about one or two a month or more. I sometimes wonder if the charity is actually helping the causes that the materials claim to be helping or if it is more about raising money to compensate the team that works on raising the money.

I accidentally came across a website that is devoted to analyzing the financial policies of various charitable organizations and ranking them against other similarly focused organizations. I found it very useful in helping me to decide whether the charity that was requesting my contribution was worthy of consideration. The website is www.charitynavigator.org. They even have a ranking for the UUSC.

From The President:
