In the Interim

Consulting Interim Minister Myron Andes

    Our religious tradition practices “Freedom of the Pulpit” and “Freedom of the Pew.” I claim also, “Freedom of the Dictionary.” Here is an entry from Myron’s Free-Associative Dictionary-ish List of Words. (Publication very pending!)

Religion – re-lig-ion.

re-
   Repeat, iterate;
   return, come back;
   restore, make right, as before, again
   Regarding, having regard or respect for; concerning, being concerned, having concern for;
    caring, mattering, making a difference.

lig-
   As in ligament, connective tissue joining the power of muscle to the structure of bone for
     the purpose of movement and work; holding the body together and allowing it to stand
   As in ligature: the combining of two or more alphabetic characte
rs into one, a joining of
     disparate symbols into a unity to serve one purpose together

   (See also:  legato, music that is smooth and connected
                   Legos®, child’s toy consisting of many small pieces connected in intricate
                     combinations to form amazing sculptures)

-ion
   electrically charged molecule
    an atom with an overabundance of electrons to share, or spacious capacity to accept
    electrons, thus achieving balance by the flow of  energy across electric potential

    About that religious tradition I mentioned in the beginning of this article: May we be, in this place, ever more a re-lig-ion. May we come back, again and again, to those things about which we are concerned, that matter to us, about which we find it important to make a difference. May we join our various strengths and capacities smoothly in effective work for the common goal. And may we be charged with electricity!

Sunday Services

March 4           AKA: UUCE
Consulting Interim Minister Myron Andes
Worship Associate Tom Moor

Each of us has a name,” writes Marcia Fahls, “given by…” So what names have we been given? How do we come by them? How comfortably do we live in them? What name truly describes us now, and into what future name do we want to live?

March 11         Reverence
Consulting Interim Minister Myron Andes
Worship Associate Teri Rockwood

"Reverence runs across religions and even outside them through the fabric of any community, however secular,” writes Paul Woodruff. What is the role of reverence in our lives and in our communal worship? What does it mean to us?

March 18         “The Children, Out of the Shade, Have Brought Me a Basket.”
Consulting Interim Minister Myron Andes
Worship Associate Jan Steinmark

Paired poems by Thomas Hornsby Ferril provide our sacred text today: “Wood,” and “Basket.”

March 25         (UU) Women’s History Month
Worship Leader Jan Steinmark
Worship Associate Teri Rockwood

Sallie Ellis, who created the first Unitarian Post Office Mission, which eventually led to the organization of the Church of the Larger Fellowship, is being honored today as part of Women's History Month.

YOUR U.U. PAGANS

    For a while you’ve been hearing about P.I.D.G. meetings and celebrations. Hopefully, you’ve even had the opportunity to participate in one of our celebrations. We are undergoing some major changes right now. We have decided to change our group name to the Pagan Study Group (PSG) in accordance with our desire to delve deeper into a serious study about what it means for us to be Pagans and what practices we should develop. All are still welcome, but because we will study progressively, you might be doing a lot of back-reading if you only attend sporadically. We will still have celebrations open to the church and public, the equinoxes and solstices. We will start meeting every Tuesday. Pay attention to the church calendar for times as some meetings will start at 6pm and some at 7pm. A pattern to the times will develop next month. Thank you so much for all your support!!

    Put these dates on your calendar:

3/6 PSG Ostara planning 6pm

3/12 Ostara RSVP due

3/13 PSG Ostara planning 6pm

3/20 Ostara celebration!

3/27 PSG meeting 7pm

OSTARA

    The Pagan Study Group’s second public celebration is this month! We will be celebrating the Spring Equinox on March 20 at 7pm, here at UUCE. Of course you are all invited and encouraged to attend. Please R.S.V.P. by March 12 to evansvillepsg@hotmail.com with the number of adults and children under 12 planning to come.

BUDGET REQUESTS FOR 2007-08

    The Finance Committee is beginning the process of planning the church budget for the 2007-8 fiscal year. To everyone who is in charge of a committee, or of some function within the church that spends money (e.g. child care), you need to give your budgetary needs to the Finance Chair, David Fentress. Call him or he has a box in the board room. Just give him the amount that you would like your committee to have by Sunday March 11. In so far as it's possible, itemizing specific needs would be helpful.

FIRST FRIDAY DRUMMING CIRCLE

    The first Friday Shamanic Drum and Healing circle is at 7:00pm on the first Friday of each month.  All are welcome.

HOUSE & GROUNDS

House and Grounds chair Dale Mossberger should be be listed as such with his new phone number (in case anyone needs to contact him for building/property-specifics problems or questions).  I don't know how to word that.   Maybe just simply listed as a contact
