THE INTERIM Spring
is like a perhaps hand e.e. cummings As the mighty change in seasons stops its hesitant, forward and back again teasing with warm temperatures, then cold, with buds and blossoms then freezes, it begins to assert itself ever more surely. This annual miracle of wonder and amazement rearranges everything. The very shape and color of the countryside changes. Being part of the natural world ourselves, we may experience senseless optimism, and believe that anything is possible. We remember the winter’s violence, the storms, the cold, the shootings, the bombs. Yet some deep stirring within our very bodies barely contains itself before springing forth into a river of hope, flooding its banks and washing clean our mental and emotional landscape. It has been said that there is nothing new under the sun, and I guess that’s right. Except, of course, when it’s not. Biological evolution depends on it. Technological innovation is replete with it. Art thrives on it. Every new person who comes into the world is an example of it. And every day we live is an opportunity for it: something really new. As inheritors of liberal religious tradition, we are fortunate to benefit from the words and examples of people who had unlimited faith in the potential of human beings to do things never dreamed before. This spring, as we consider our potential, individually and together as a church, let us throw wide the doors of inspiration and accept bold visions of who we can be, what we might do, what as yet unimagined dream we can become. After all, that’s what spring is for. Myron SUNDAY SERVICES May

NOW BOARDING THE UUCE JOURNEY The Pledge Drive Committee would like to remind everyone to turn in your pledge cards as soon as possible. Thanks! NOTES FROM THE BOARD
As you all know, we are participating in the UUA Interim Program, having
Myron as our Interim Minister for this year. In February, as a part of the process,
an evaluation of the interim year was begun. This was the mid-year evaluation.
The program will be evaluated again at the end of the interim year. An evaluation
form was filled out by four members of the congregation, called lay leaders, and by
Myron.
The lay leaders, members of the Transition Team and Myron then met with the
UUCE Board of Directors to review the evaluation and to use it as a planning tool
to assess the congregation's progress toward meeting its goals for the interim year
and to guide future actions toward those goals. The process was to take stock, to
learn, and to plan for the future. If you would like more information about this
process please feel free to contact any of the members of the Board.
Becky McDonald, Board Secretary.

GETTING TO KNOW UU… From time to time we will feature short bio’s on new members. Teri Rockwood. “I moved to Evansville at the end of January 2006 from Spokane, WA, with my husband, Dave Stensaas, and son, Liam Rockwood. Being a full-time homemaker has been a joy and spending my days with Liam is irreplaceable. I also enjoy cooking, time outdoors especially in a forest, yarn crafts, and gatherings with family and friends. I’ve experienced a lot of adventures out West working in environmental education, forestry research, and wildlife research. Ask me sometime about my experience working as a volunteer fire lookout on Gisborne Mtn. in northern Idaho for five weeks. My mother and siblings are in central Wisconsin in the town of Wild Rose where I grew up. In 1996 in the town of Ripon, WI, is where I first attended a UU service and became a member soon after. I have always been active in the ministries of the churches I have attended and these activities include Worship, Coming of Age, Adult RE, and Young Family Potlucks.” Richard Dale Mosberger. Dale was born in Princeton, Indiana, the oldest of five children. He married Margaret Louise Pirie from Chicago in 1974 and was widowed in 1983. Dale returned to the Tri-State area in the 1990s, after spending many years in Fort Lauderdale, Florida. The UU he perhaps most identifies with is Ambrose Bierce. Welcome to UUCE! We’re glad you’ve joined us!! UUA
GENERAL ASSEMBLY DID YOU KNOW? Emilie Richards’ mystery series (Ministry is Murder) features the wife of a UU minister as the protagonist. Check them out at your local library! Religious Education for our Youth and Young Adults As the year of Religious Education classes nears its end, I’ve been thinking back over this year of RE and forward to next year. Bryan and Kristie Walker host weekly discussion at Chalice House for our high school students, plus the occasional sleep-over or movie night. And they’ve agreed to do so again next year. Nancy Higgs has been teaching the middle school class for the past 5 years, after having taught the elementary class for several years before that. She’ll be taking a break once this teaching year ends in May. Jan Steinmark has provided and supervised a project sponsored by the Social Justice Committee the first Sunday of each month. She’s also provided special handouts and projects for Chinese New Year and for Earth Day, and brought books from the Library for our volunteer teachers to use. Our many volunteer teachers, assistants, and subs have made it possible to have classes for the younger children this year. Thank you to Susie Feinberg, Joel Haffner, Tina Grant, Tina Sizemore, Becky McDonald, Terry Rockwood, Mary Helen Weldy, Teri Rawlings, Bonnie Heilman, Lee-Ann Assalone, Natasha Goodge, Lauren Talley, Megan Tuley, Ann Hanat, Suzan Ozel, Chad Tew, Diane Brewer and Mark Rigney, Mary Jane Steele, David Granholm, and Mollie Pharo. OWL teachers, David Granholm and Susie Feinberg from UUCE, and Paul Mefford and Nancy Bock from the UCC tradition, have provided in-depth sexuality education for our 7th-9th graders Sunday afternoons from January through May. Teacher recognition will be during the May 13th service. Please take a moment to thank these folks and to think about how you might be able to contribute. We need someone to chair the RE Committee, members of that committee, teachers, teaching assistants and subs, snack providers, volunteer coordinator… This summer there will not be classes, but we’ll need at least two volunteers each week to supervise children at Chalice House during services. It’s an opportunity to get to know these wonderful kids and to possibly share a favorite childhood game or UUCE memory with them. There will be a sign-up sheet. Mollie
