September 2
A Conservation Ethic Care for the environment is a vital part of our spiritual life as we UUs believe in the interconnected web of life. How can we live within our means and resources and strike a balance for the health of the planet? Find out what you can do. Take a pledge to reduce.
September 9
Water Communion Join us for a traditional, intergenerational, ingathering service. All members, friends, and youth are encouraged to participate by bringing water From or your thoughts on your summer journeys to share.
September 16
Visions of the Goddess We have a colorful new item hanging in the front of the sanctuary - it is a nine-panel World Religions Flags Banner. The Worship Committee will be providing a service based on each of the featured religions. The first flag represents the Middle Eastern Great Goddess, and Jan Steinmark will provide an overview entitled "Visions of the Goddess" about Goddess traditions in cultures around the world.
September 23 Who's
yo Momma? We will discuss immigration issues and the UUA's participation in immigration issues.
September 30 The
Art of Meditation Come reap the benefits of meditation. Discover different approaches and ways to meditate. Find out how you can work meditation into your own life. BOARD OF DIRECTOR’S MEETING UUCE Board of Director's meets the first Wednesday of the month at 6:00 PM. TRANSITION TEAM The Transition Team has been discussing the formation of a "Food for Thought" series, with dinner and a presentation about some topic of interest. Please let us know if you would like to be involved in the planning of these programs. Since we have been having several visitors, inquiries into membership, and new members, we have been discussing the importance of having an active Membership Committee. If you would like to be involved in this very vital part of our congregation, please let a member of the Transition Team know. Current members are David Granholm, Teri Rockwood, and Jan Steinmark. GETTING TO KNOW UU Are you interested in learning more about Unitarian Universalism and the Unitarian Universalist Church of Evansville? Join me after the service on September 16 at 11:30 and meet other newcomers and have your questions answered. You will also have the opportunity to learn more about the path to membership. For more information or questions contact Teri Rockwood at teri.rockwood@gmail.com. See you there. RELIGIOUS EDUCATION FOR 2007-08 Welcome to a new church year and a new year for our kid's religious education. I'd like to invite all of you to consider joining the RE Committee. The committee is a group of folks who COORDINATE the programs for our children. Committee members do not necessarily teach the children and it is not a requirement that members be parents. The most important qualification is a sincere interest in providing a quality Unitarian Universalist experience for the children who attend our church. All of us can endorse that idea. Now, go beyond just the idea and act to make it happen by contributing your time and talent. For more information and a stimulating conversation, contact me, Becky McDonald, Director of Religious Education 2007-08. DOODs Have you seen anyone wearing a stained glass "DOOD" sign? "DOOD" stands for "Director Officially On Duty" - each Sunday, a member of the Board of Directors is our "DOOD", getting the church ready, answering questions, being a presence. Thanks to all of our "DOODS"! MARK THE DATES Fall Festival will be the week of October 1-6, 2007. As usual we need help getting prepared as well as help in the booth during the week. Plan no to spend a day or two supporting YOUR UU church!! FALL FESTIVAL COOKING PARTIES! Due to suggestions from the board of health we will be changing the way we prepare food for the Fall Festival. Chicken and cookies will no longer be prepared in individual homes. Instead we will host cooking parties at church where we will prepare the chicken and bake the cookies. The chicken cooking party will be held on Saturday, September 15 at the church. A date for cookie baking will be announced soon. Please call Teri Rawlings to sign up to help with either event!! Also, we will be collecting money to purchase bulk supplies for the cookie baking party. See Teri to donate. IMMIGRATION and ALIENS September 5, 6:30PM - 8:00 PM, at UUCE, Lincoln Christensen and Chris Norrington will begin a series of study on social topics of importance to Unitarian Universalists. The Unitarian Universalist Association ("the mother ship") has published several stories about immigration, published a political position paper adopted by the UUA at General Assembly of congregations, and it is a very hot topic every where we turn. We believe we need to make a statement, as the Unitarian Universalist Church of Evansville, that speaks to some facet of the immigration reform discussion. The issue is too large to make a comprehensive statement. However, by studying the subject, we hope to reach consensus on some portion of the issue. Components of the issue include international politics, domestic labor policies, deportation procedures, breaking apart of families, scarcity of resources, among many others. If you would like to come, please do. Spend a few minutes, if you can, to bring a statement by politicians, religious leaders, or others. Bring studies, bring news articles, bring your opinion. We'll try and make a worthwhile time for everyone attending. POTLUCK Our next potluck will be on September 23, 2007. Come join your fellow UU’s for good food and good conversation! GREETERS NEEDED As the Greeter Coordinator, I need your help in making sure that there are smiling faces to greet newcomers and good friends alike on Sunday mornings before church. The goal is to have two greeters for every Sunday. You don't have to get there super early, just by about 9:40 or so. For a complete job description and to sign up, see me, Lauren Talley, in church or contact me via phone or email (xgj36@hotmail.com). Thanks and I look forward to hearing from you! COFFEE Fair Exchange coffee order forms are available in the foyer or contact Chris Norrington at cnorrington@hotmail.com. Please place your order by the 25th of each month. FIRST FRIDAY DRUMMING CIRCLE The First Friday Shamanic Drum and Healing Circle is at 7:00 PM on the first Friday of each month. All are welcome. PSG MEETINGS We are a pagan study group that is currently working on meditation, energy work, magic, and ethics, as well as learning about a host of other pagan practices and topics. Contact us (Megan Tuley and Lauren Talley) at evansvillepsg@hotmail.com (Lauren) if you have any questions (see calendar for dates and times). PSG MABON CELEBRATION The Pagan Study Group would like to invite all of you to our Mabon (Fall Equinox) celebration on Sunday, September 23 at 6pm! This event is open to church members/friends and the public alike. You don't have to be pagan to attend. Please join us for a joyous celebration of thanks for Mother Earth's bounty as well as the blessings we have received in our lives. Please include the number of adults and children under 12 who will be attending (we will try to provide childcare if it is needed). Blessed Be! CONCERT AT UUCE You are invited to join us for an upcoming Donna Marie Cary concert. Donna's background is with The Course In Miracles and her music is inspirational and uplifting. This particular concert is a little different than her typical concerts as we will be sharing an evening of Devotional Singing. Everyone participates.
Devotional Singing led by Donna Marie Cary. An evening of prayer
through song.
