First, please allow me to put you at ease concerning the pronunciation of my name. Although I am officially the Reverend Doctor Claudene F Oliva, try Deane, pronounced, “Dee-knee.”
Raised in White Plains New York, I received a bachelor’s degree from Antioch College, a master’s degree from the New School for Social Research and a Ph.D. from George Peabody College of Vanderbilt University. I spent many years working as a clinical and school neuropsychologist, primarily in the Tennessee-Kentucky area.
Raised Roman Catholic, I was unchurched for many years before taking up a Buddhist spiritual practice and joining the Unitarian Universalist Church of Bowling Green Kentucky. In 2007, I received a Master of Divinity degree from
Meadville
Lombard
Theological
School and a Certificate in Spiritual Direction from the Institute for Spiritual Leadership in
Chicago.
As Unitarian Universalists, we have a strong faith tradition, one that sanctions our search for truth and meaning; one that encourages us to share the journey, walk the talk, and turn to each other in fellowship, commitment, service, pain and joy. We explore such questions as:
¨ Why are we here?
¨ How do we express our values in our daily lives?
¨ How shall we care for and minister to each other?
¨ What about worship makes it right for us?
¨ What is our sense of beloved community?
¨ How do we relate to the larger world?
A minister loves the journey, takes the opportunity to share, to question and to facilitate, so that folks of many different religious paths will feel nurtured, challenged and heard.
